Burnette Shutt & McDaniel co-sponsor ‘JURISCINEMA’ film series

JURISCINEMA legal movies at The NickCOLUMBIA, SC – Did you ever leave a great movie and want to keep talking about it?

You’ll get your chance beginning next month. The Nickelodeon’s five-week “JURISCINEMA: The Law on Screen” begins Sept. 11. Burnette Shutt & McDaniel is a co-sponsor of the series.

The firm, along with other local lawyers, helped curate the movies. They looked for films not only with artistic merit but also with meaningful messages.

The movies span the decades, from 1962’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” to last year’s “Hidden Figures.” They include purely fictional works, movies based on true stories and a documentary.

The films have one thing in common. They all make powerful points about the American legal system and society.

The Nickelodeon created the series in hopes of deepening the community’s legal understanding. The discussions afterward will help highlight opportunities for people to get involved in the system. The program dovetails perfectly with Columbia Film Society’s mission of celebrating diversity and teaching through cinema.

Local attorneys, including all three Burnette Shutt & McDaniel founders, will help lead conversations after each screening.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to talk about aspects of the law we’re passionate about,” Kathleen McDaniel said. “It’s also a great chance to revisit some of our favorite movies.”
