Burnette Shutt & McDaniel lawyer Jax Pavlicek: 3 things you should know about me

I grew up in the south—no, the OTHER south. The land of palm trees, carne asada burritos, fish tacos and home of the Padres (but not the Chargers – I’m still bitter about that). San Diego.

Every time I tell folks where I’m from, they ask what brought me to Columbia, South Carolina (and why I stayed). I came here to eat a ridiculous amount of barbecue and tailgate at Williams Brice attend the University of South Carolina School of Law. I loved it so much that I decided to stick around.  My husband and I were married on Lake Murray, our beautiful daughter was born here, and we love calling the Midlands our home.

I’m proud to be a Privacy Pro.

Shhhhhhh, that’s private!  Not really.

Before law school, I worked as a security consultant in the video surveillance arena.  It was really cool.  I consulted on jobs throughout southern California and in Mexico.  Working as a security consultant piqued my interest in privacy laws way back then.  After graduating from law school, I became a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and received my CIPP/US designation.  Much of my privacy work involves helping employers and employees comply with laws such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, navigate workplace privacy issues, and respond to data breaches.  Keep your eyes out for future blog posts on privacy- and data-breach related topics.

I’m an unapologetic Game of Thrones nerd.

Hello.  My name is Jax Pavlicek, and I’m a GOT addict.  If you catch me on a Monday, you might find me blabbing incessantly about Khaleesi, white walkers or the King of the North.  Or, if I didn’t watch the newest episode, you might catch me with my fingers in my ears trying to avoid spoilers.  If you’ve attended one of my CLE presentations, you have probably seen some of my super clever examples that are not so loosely based on the characters of GOT.  Sorry, I’m not sorry.

Jax Pavlicek’s practice at Burnette Shutt McDaniel includes privacy issues and data-breach recovery. She’s also a litigator. You can reach her at jpavlicek@burnettelaw.com or 803.850.0912.
