A committed advocate with a strong sense of right and wrong, Annie Bame focuses her practice at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel on employment law, civil rights issues, and litigation.
Before joining Burnette Shutt & McDaniel in 2022, Annie clerked for the Honorable J. Michelle Childs. She began her clerkship with Judge Childs at the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and continued with Judge Childs after she was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Prior to her clerkship, Annie worked as an attorney at a small Columbia firm. She focused her practice on a variety of criminal, civil, and legislative matters.
She clerked at two other Columbia firms while attending the University of South Carolina School of Law. One firm focused on insurance defense and the other concentrated on white-collar criminal defense.
She also externed with the U.S. District Court before graduating magna cum laude with a Juris Doctor. She earned several honors while in law school, including CALI awards for Torts and Legal Writing for the Courts. Additionally, she was inducted into the Order of the Wig and Robe, a legal scholastic society made up of students with top academic records.
Prior to law school, Annie practiced as a therapist for two years in South Carolina, providing mental health counseling to low-income patients. She earned a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the College of William and Mary.
A Palmetto State native, Annie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Experimental Psychology at the University of South Carolina.
Her commitment to public service was instilled at any early age. A third-generation lawyer, Annie’s grandfather is a former dean of the University of South Carolina School of Law, and her father is a retired Assistant U.S. Attorney.
