Burnette, McDaniel included in 2019 Legal Elite of the Midlands

COLUMBIA, SC – M. Malissa Burnette and Kathleen McDaniel earned honors in two practice areas each in the new edition of “Legal Elite of the Midlands.”

Burnette is highlighted in Labor and Employment Law and Education Law. McDaniel is honored in Environmental and Energy and Utilities Law.

Burnette Shutt & McDaniel attorneys have a long history of inclusion in “Legal Elite of the Midlands.” The publication has listed several lawyers from the firm over the years, honoring them in a variety of practice areas.

Burnette and McDaniel were first honored in 2011. McDaniel has been included in every edition since, consistently landing in the Top 10 in Environmental Law. The 2019 edition is the first in which she’s also listed among the Legal Elite in energy and utilities law. One of the founders of Burnette Shutt & McDaniel, her practice includes government law as well.

McDaniel assists businesses of all sizes, helping them secure the permits and permissions they need to get projects going. She also works with neighborhood groups, helping them reach agreements with businesses that protect both sides. She represents clients in court and before local boards and agencies, state administrative agencies and licensing boards.

Burnette, a South Carolina Supreme Court Certified Specialist in Labor and Employment law and another of the firm’s founders, has earned honors in an array of employment law-related practice areas over the years. She’s also won recognition in government law and mediation. This is the first year “Legal Elite” has recognized her work in education law.

Burnette is a skilled and experienced litigator who’s represented clients in high-profile cases that made national and state headings. She’s currently part of the legal team representing a same-sex couple fighting for the right to foster parent. Burnette’s practice also includes civil and constitutional rights, discrimination and more.
