Burnette Shutt & McDaniel welcomes attorney Meredith Cooper Brown to the firm
COLUMBIA, SC – A familiar face has a new role at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel. Meredith Cooper Brown, who has served as a law clerk at the firm for almost three years, is now our newest attorney.
A South Carolina native and former educator, Meredith will focus her practice on education, employment, and family law as she continues her push to move law forward for families, students, teachers, and private- and public-sector employees.
Meredith graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she was active in a number of organizations. The list included the Black Law Student Association, The Honorable Matthew J. Perry Chapter and the Native American Law Student Association, The Honorable James Lockemy Chapter. She also was active in the University of South Carolina Student Mock Trial Bar, earning honors in 2021 for Best Closing Argument in the Glenn Family Mock Trial Competition. Additionally, she served as an extern with the Hon. Michelle Hurley, assisting with administrative tasks and observing Family Court proceedings.
Before attending law school, she taught in Georgia and New York classrooms from grade two through high school. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with secondary education certification from Spelman College in Atlanta, where she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She also was a member of the ”Sweet” Mu Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Spelman.
Meredith holds a master’s in elementary inclusive education from the Columbia University Teachers College in New York.
