About Super Lawyers
The Super Lawyers selection process begins with a nomination from a peer. Next, Super Lawyers conducts independent research into 12 indicators of professional achievement. The areas include verdicts, scholarly lectures and writing, honors and awards and special certifications. Representative clients also are consulted. Finally, a blue-ribbon panel of top-rated attorneys in each practice area evaluates other candidates.
According to Super Lawyers, only 5 percent of the attorneys in each state are recognized every year. Rising Stars, which recognizes lawyers under 40 or with less than 10 years’ practice, includes no more than 2.5 percent of licensed attorneys.
Super Lawyers is distributed annually to more than 13 million people across the country. A companion piece, South Carolina Super Lawyers, reaches more than 100,000 readers. The listings also are available online, where they act as a resource to people and business who need to hire an attorney.
