Burnette highlighted in 2011 Super Lawyers list
COLUMBIA, S.C. – M. Malissa Burnette has been included in the 2011 Edition of South Carolina Super Lawyers.
She’s one of only three attorneys in the state whose work was recognized in the area of Plaintiff Employment Litigation. This is the fourth straight year Burnette has been named a Super Lawyer.
Super Lawyers is an annual publication that rates attorneys across more than 70 practice areas. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. Each nominee is assessed on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.
The goal, according to the Super Lawyers publisher, is to create a comprehensive listing of outstanding attorneys that consumers and other attorneys can use as a resource.
A certified specialist in employment and labor law since 1993, Burnette also is a certified federal court mediator. She’s co-author and editor of all four editions of Labor and Employment Law for South Carolina Lawyers, and she’s presented more than 50 continuing legal education seminars.
Burnette has served the legal community in numerous capacities, including as chair of the South Carolina Bar’s Judicial Qualifications Committee and as president of the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association.
Burnette holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.
In addition to employment law, Burnette’s practice areas include alternate dispute resolution and family law.
