Burnette Shutt & McDaniel attorneys included in 2015 Super Lawyers publications
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – Three Burnette Shutt & McDaniel attorneys are highlighted in Super Lawyers 2015, the latest edition of an annual publication that recognizes attorneys across more than 70 practice areas.
Super Lawyers selected M. Malissa Burnette, Kathleen McDaniel and Janet Rhodes after an extensive evaluation that assesses nominees based on 12 indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition. The selection process includes independent research and stringent evaluations from colleagues in their practice areas. Only about 5 percent of the attorneys nominated are selected each year.
Burnette was honored in employment litigation. McDaniel was included in Rising Stars in administrative law, while Rhodes was selected for Rising Stars in employment and labor law. The Rising Stars category is for lawyers who have practiced less than 10 years or are younger than 40, and only 2.5 percent of those nominated are selected.
Burnette has been included in every edition of Super Lawyers since 2008, and she’s featured on the cover of this year’s South Carolina edition. She’s been a Certified Specialist in Employment and Labor Law since 1993, and she’s also a certified federal mediator. Her recent work has included litigation involving marriage equality in South Carolina, cases she has worked on with Burnette Shutt & McDaniel colleagues Nekki Shutt and Jax Pavlicek.
McDaniel’s practice includes government law, land use, environmental law and general litigation in addition to administrative law.
Rhodes focuses her practice on discrimination, Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, military employment rights and other employment matters in both South Carolina and federal courts, including litigation. This is the second year she’s been selected for inclusion in Rising Stars.
Super Lawyers Magazine is distributed to more than 13 million readers across the country. Its companion publications highlight honored attorneys in each state. South Carolina Super Lawyers is distributed to more than 100,000 readers each year.
