Sarah Cox joins Justice360 Board of Directors
COLUMBIA, SC – A dedicated fighter for the rights of others, Sarah J.M. Cox is taking that fight to the next level by joining the Justice360 Board of Directors.
A nonprofit organization, Justice360 wages a multifaceted battle against the death penalty and juvenile life sentences. The group represents clients at all stages of the legal process. This includes state and federal post-conviction issues for death row inmates.
Justice360 also acts as a legal resource for other attorneys and legal professionals, helping them keep up with the latest research and rulings involving capital cases. The group works for better public policy, both through the courts and the Legislature. Justice360 also strives to educate the public about capital punishment issues.
Sarah’s practice at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel includes civil rights and issues in the criminal justice system. She’s part of the firm’s Criminal Justice Civil Rights Team of attorneys currently suing Richland County over inhumane, unconstitutional conditions at its jail.
She also represents clients in employment law cases. This includes violations of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That federal law prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender or gender identity, pregnancy, national origin, or sexual orientation.
A two-time winner of the American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award, Sarah has long used her legal skills to help those who can’t afford quality representation.
She’s earned other professional accolades as well, including recognition in “Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch” and “Super Lawyers Rising Stars” for her work in employment law. She’s also been honored in “Legal Elite of the Midlands.”
