Shutt, Burnette honored among the Midlands Top 50 Most Influential of 2015
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – Nekki Shutt and M. Malissa Burnette are being recognized jointly on a list of the Midlands Top 50 Most Influential of 2015.
Columbia Business Monthly announces the list every Jan. 1. The rankings typically include people in business, government, legal, economic development, education and non-profit sectors who made an impact in the Midlands during the previous year. The magazine accepts nominations in the late fall and then conducts extensive interviews with key players in the nominees’ fields before determining its Top 50.
Shutt and Burnette’s nomination was based on their battle for marriage equality. The two served as lead attorneys in the litigation that led to same-sex couples being allowed to marry legally in South Carolina.
Both lawyers are certified South Carolina employment law specialists. Their practices include representing clients in a range of discrimination cases. They also regularly represent clients in matters involving federal issues such as FMLA, ERISA, and wage and hour law.
