Jack Cohoon honored with scouting award
Congratulations to our partner Jack Cohoon, who recently received the Boy Scouts of America’s Council Alumnus of the Year Award.
An Eagle Scout, Scout parent, long-time leader, and past Cubmaster, Jack helped create the Indian Waters Council’s Law Merit Badge Day. The event brings together legal professionals and Scouting alumni, many of whom are Eagle Scouts, to help youth understand law and law enforcement.
The program has helped hundreds of Scouts earn the Law merit badge. This year alone, 120 Scouts from three states participated. Instructors included a former South Carolina Supreme Court chief justice, the state’s attorney general, a U.S. District judge, a county sheriff, and more. The program included discussions about consumer protection law, songs subject to copyright battles, and the role of law enforcement in society, as well as the opportunity for each scout to participate in a mock trial.
An employment law attorney at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel, Jack has chaired the program four times since 2017. It’s not the first time he’s been honored for his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts. In 2018, he was recognized as Cubmaster of the Year for the Chinquapin District of the Indian Waters Council.
