LeFever becomes firm’s newest associate
A familiar face is stepping into an exciting new role at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel, as Grant Burnette LeFever becomes the firm’s newest associate.
LeFever served as the firm’s senior law clerk for more than a year as she completed her studies at the University of South Carolina School of Law. In that role, she prepared legal documents such as motions, memoranda and orders, and conducted extensive legal research.
In her new role, she’ll focus her practice on employment law, family law, education law and litigation. She’ll help clients with a range of workplace issues, including discrimination, wrongful termination and wage disputes. She’ll represent those whose civil or constitutional rights are violated. Additionally, she’ll assist with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and South Carolina Human Affairs Commission cases.
In the education realm, she’ll work with clients in areas including special education, school discipline, academic employment and Title IX.
Grant has authored a chapter on workers’ compensation law for Labor & Employment Law for South Carolina Lawyers. She also served as assistant editor for the publication of the South Carolina Bar.
A Columbia native
Grant graduated cum laude from Presbyterian College with a bachelor’s degree in English and History. She completed a master’s degree in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi while also attending the University of South Carolina as a first-year law student. Her thesis examined social, cultural and political issues surrounding display of the Confederate flag at South Carolina’s Capitol.
Grant earned several honors while in law school, including prestigious CALI awards in legal research, analysis and writing and S.C. workers’ compensation law. She was co-president of the law school’s Pro Bono Board and honored with the Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award. Grant also practiced as a student attorney in the law school’s Education Rights Clinic during her third year. She represented special-needs children and handled student discipline matters.
She serves her community as well as her profession. Grant has volunteered with organizations ranging from Harvest Hope Food Bank and the United Way to Relay for Life and the Special Olympics.
