Burnette honored as Lawyer of the Year for work in employment law

Malissa Burnette, a certified specialist in South Carolina employment law, has been named “Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America, one of the oldest peer-reviewed publications in the legal profession.

Burnette was honored as Columbia’s Labor & Employment Lawyer of the Year.

Only one lawyer per practice area is designated “Lawyer of the Year” in each city per year. The attorney is selected after receiving particularly high ratings from most peers who participated in the annual Best Lawyers survey. “The selected lawyers have earned a high level of respect among other leading lawyers in the same communities and the same practice areas for their abilities, their professionalism, and their integrity,” Best Lawyers says.

Burnette was ranked in three other Best Lawyers practice areas as well: Employment Law, Individuals; Litigation, Labor & Employment; and Mediation.

Burnette is a certified federal court mediator. She’s co-author and editor of all four editions of Labor and Employment Law for South Carolina Lawyers, and she’s presented to more than 50 continuing legal education seminars. In addition to employment and labor law, her practice areas include alternate dispute resolution and domestic relations.

Burnette holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.
