An annual publication of Columbia Business Monthly, Legal Elite recognizes top attorneys in 50 practice areas, as selected after a vote of other lawyers in the Midlands.
This year’s Burnette Shutt & McDaniel honorees are:
Kathleen McDaniel – Environmental Law and Civil Litigation. Kathleen’s practice includes a wide variety of environmental and property law cases, from helping businesses with permitting issues to standing up for people opposed to projects in their neighborhoods. A highly skilled litigator, she’s been involved in several high-profile cases. This includes the on-going battle for reproductive healthcare rights in South Carolina and fighting for the public in issues surrounding legislative redistricting.
Jack Cohoon – Employment & Labor. A skilled employment lawyer and civil rights attorney, Jack often fights for people on issues where the two practice areas intersect. This includes representing a client fired by a public agency after she made social-media comments following the death of Charlie Kirk. He also is a skilled Freedom of Information Act attorney eager to defend the public’s right to know about the workings of government agencies.
Lydia Robins Hendrix – Education Law. Lydia represents clients in a full range of education law cases, from student, teacher or staff disciplinary proceedings to Title IX cases to contract disputes. Her practice also includes employment law and civil rights law. She’s fought for a government employee who believes she was wrongly fired and discriminated against due to a disability, and she’s defended a librarian who was terminated after protesting removal of a Pride Month display.
