Burnette, McDaniel included in 2016 Legal Elite of the Midlands

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – Two Burnette Shutt & McDaniel attorneys were honored by Columbia Business Monthly in its 2016 Legal Elite of the Midlands edition: M. Malissa Burnette in government law and labor law, and Kathleen McDaniel in environmental law.

Burnette, a certified specialist in South Carolina employment law since 1993, represents clients in complex litigation. Her work includes cases involving the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), discrimination, civil rights, wage claims and academic promotion and tenure issues. Additionally, she’s an arbitrator and certified federal court mediator.

McDaniel’s practice includes a range of government law matters in addition to environmental law. She helps business navigate an often-complicated maze of government permits they need to get their projects under way. She also represents business and community groups in planning and zoning matters. Additionally, she represents clients before various state agencies and licensing boards.

More than 300 attorneys are nominated each year for inclusion in Legal Elite of the Midlands. Lawyers must be nominated by someone outside their firm in order to be considered.

Next, up to 10 lawyers are selected in each of 20 practice areas after a vote in which all active attorneys in the Midlands are eligible to participate. This year’s group of Legal Elites are being highlighted in Columbia Business Monthly’s August issue and recognized at a reception.
