Employment lawyer Janet Rhodes comes home to Burnette Shutt & McDaniel
We are thrilled to welcome back Janet Rhodes, a skilled, determined employment lawyer and one of the original attorneys who helped drive the Burnette Shutt & McDaniel mantra of moving law forward. She rejoins us after a few years at another Columbia, SC law firm.
Janet has more than a decade’s experience in all facets of employment law. She’s a leader in the legal profession who long has been active in the SC Bar Employment and Labor Law Section, currently serving as its chair.
Her legal practice includes representing employees in cases involving wrongful termination, discrimination, equal pay, and wage disputes. She litigates cases involving the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Title VII.
Janet also assists business with in-depth audits that can help keep them in compliance with employment law. She drafts policies and handbooks that can serve as the first line of defense in employee disputes. She also has extensive experience drafting employment agreements, termination agreements, and independent contractor agreements.
A Greenwood County native, Janet graduated magna cum laude from Wofford College with a degree in government. As an undergrad, she excelled in the arts and sports. She performed as a vocalist with three ensembles and earned honors as an NCAA Division I athlete in javelin. Her juris doctor is from the Charleston School of Law.
Her interest in the arts continues. She performed for several seasons with the Sandlapper Singers and serves on the board of the Trustus Theater.
