Burnette Shutt & McDaniel earns top-tier honors in Best Law Firms
Burnette Shutt & McDaniel is ranked among the top firms in two employment law practice areas in the just-released 2019 edition of Best Law Firms in America.
Burnette Shutt & McDaniel again earned Tier 1 rankings for the Columbia, SC metropolitan area in Employment Law – Individuals and Litigation – Labor & Employment Law. The national directory also recognizes the firm in six other practice areas:
- Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law
- Litigation – ERISA
- Civil Rights Law
- Employment Law – Management
- Commercial Litigation
- Mediation

Three Burnette Shutt & McDaniel attorneys – Burnette, co-founder Nekki Shutt and partner Janet Rhodes – earned honors in the 2019 edition of Best Lawyers. Shutt won Lawyer of the Year in Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law. All told, the firm received 11 awards in Best Lawyers across eight practice areas.
The attorneys at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel have a long history of inclusion in the peer-reviewed publication. Burnette has been included yearly since the 2005 edition and Shutt since 2010. Rhodes was first included in the 2018 edition.
Once Best Lawyers are selected, Best Law Firms sends surveys to clients and other attorneys. The questionnaires ask them to evaluate the firm in categories such as knowledge, responsiveness, cost-effectiveness. Firms are then ranked in tiers in their geographic areas.
