Burnette, Shutt, Rhodes, LeFever honored in Best Lawyers publications

COLUMBIA, SC – Four attorneys at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel are included in the just-released 2021 edition of Best Lawyers in America and its companion piece, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch.

Malissa Burnette, Nekki Shutt and Janet Rhodes received a total of 13 honors across nine practice areas. Shutt led the way with awards in eight practice areas.

Additionally, Grant Burnette LeFever received three awards in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch. That guide recognizes attorneys who have practiced 10 years or less.

All four earned honors in employment law practice areas as well as for their work as litigators.

“Our goal when we founded this firm was to fight the battles for those who can’t always fight for themselves, who need someone to advocate for them when their jobs or reputations are on the line,” Shutt said. “We’re pleased that again this year, our peers have recognized our skills in these areas.”

Burnette pointed out that, though employment law and civil rights law are key areas of emphasis for the firm, the Best Lawyers awards also include recognition in areas such as employee benefits, civil litigation, and whistleblower law.

“Certainly Nekki’s work in all of these areas over the years is quite impressive, and it’s great to see our peers honor that” Burnette said. “People think of us first as civil rights attorneys or employment lawyers, but we are able to help clients with a wide range of other issues as well.”
