McDaniel named A 2013 Rising Star in 2013 Super Lawyers

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kathleen McDaniel is being honored as a Rising Star in the 2013 Edition of South Carolina Super Lawyers.

Super Lawyers rates attorneys across more than 70 practice areas. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. Rising Stars are attorneys either under the age of 40 or with less than 10 years’ practice.

McDaniel was recognized in the practice area of government/cities/municipalities law.

She long has had an interest in government issues in South Carolina and beyond. While serving with the Peace Corps in the Philippines, McDaniel helped local officials create a fisheries conservation management plan. She also worked for the City of Charleston Parks Department before law school, and she’s currently a partner of the Richland County Planning Commission.

In the past year, she was honored with the University of South Carolina School of Law’s James Petigru Compleat Lawyer Award Silver Medallion and the Richland Bar Association’s Civic Star Award for public service.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in aquaculture, fisheries and wildlife biology from Clemson University and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. Her practice at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel also includes environmental law, administrative law, land use and zoning, and general litigation.
