Shutt wins fifth Lawyer of the Year award in Best Lawyers
COLUMBIA, SC – The new edition of Best Lawyers in America is again honoring Burnette Shutt & McDaniel co-founder Nekki Shutt with a Lawyer of the Year award for the Columbia area.
It’s her second consecutive Lawyer of the Year recognition and her fifth overall. This year’s top honors come in the practice area of Litigation – ERISA, and it’s the third time she’s won Lawyer of the Year for Columbia in that practice area.
Overall, Shutt is recognized in nine practice areas in the 2024 edition of the annual directory of the nation’s leading attorneys. The honors recognize the amazing breadth of her practice, coming in diverse areas ranging from commercial litigation to civil rights to qui tam whistleblower law.

A South Carolina certified specialist in employment law, Shutt’s ERISA practice includes fighting for employees who are wrongfully denied short- or long-term disability, group life insurance and group health insurance claims. She also protects their rights to healthcare benefits under ERISA and similar South Carolina laws.
